About me

Kindness, calm, compassion, empathy, patience, creativity and excellent writing abilities are qualities I bring to my role as a funeral celebrant.

Most of my working life has been spent as a journalist, telling the stories of people from all walks of life.

Since a young age, I have been drawn to help and care for other people, particularly those who are struggling or at a low ebb. Aided by my own intuitive skills, I am driven to provide what support and comfort I can.

I have significant personal experience of losing people close to me, and have provided end of life care and support to those who are dying.  I have supported others who have been bereaved, in both professional and personal capacities.

As well as earning my living as a writer for more than 35 years, I have run a family business, and worked professionally supporting children and young people in school, and as a carer.

I have professional qualifications in journalism, counselling, care and business management. Most significantly, I have achieved an NOCN Level 3 Diploma in Funeral Celebrancy attained through Civil Ceremonies who offer the highest UK qualifications in celebrancy.

I have also successfully completed Civil Ceremonies' course on Creating and Conducting Child and Baby Funerals. As a member of the Institute of Civil Funerals, I work to the highest standards, follow a code of conduct and and am fully insured.

I am also a member of the Natural Death Society which recognises that death is a natural part of life and aims to empower everyone in the process of dying and organising a funeral.

I have two grown up sons and live by the sea in Whitstable in Kent with my youngest son Robin, and our collie dog Tali.  I am in my element outdoors: walking my dog, riding a horse, cycling, swimming, skiing, and sailing.   My interests also include music of all kinds. I sing in two choirs and play the piano.  A lifelong bookworm, I immerse myself in a broad range of reading and have a passion for poetry. I draw and paint a little, enjoy taking pleasing photographs, and dabble with mosaics and linoprinting. I love going to the cinema and theatre.   I greatly enjoy cooking too as it satisfies my nurturing and creative instincts.
